Speciality Programs

Special projects is BGC Yukon's way of addressing Gaps in the system and providing support based on community needs. This varies from week-long camps in remote communities to one off camps to support PD days. We vary based on what is asked of us and committed to support any request brought our way. If you need something for youth and families, just ask. If we can't support you, we will connect you with someone who can. Special Projects is committed to meeting the community where they are at based on communication.

Project Backpack

BGC Yukon's Project Backpack Program is a food security and food literacy program that distributes 1 "backpack" weekly for each registered family. These bags include ingredients and recipes to help fill the food gap for families with children under 18 facing food insecurity. Project Backpack is not just a free food program, it also teaches the family how to cook, and helps to encourage healthy family time by offering food literacy opportunities for the family as a whole.

We place many different kinds of foods into the weekly bags. Each family receives the same set of 4 recipes, and all ingredients to make those recipes for an average family size of 4 people. They also get some extra healthy snack type items  We balance each week's offerings by making sure there are 2 Dinner recipes, and 2 Breakfast/Lunch recipes. As well, we have paired it with a weekly interactive virtual cooking session.

If you are a family with a child, or children under 18, facing food insecurity please do not hesitate to reach out to us to inquire about our weekly program at foodproject@bgcyukon.com.
